The same group was later also involved in a scuffle with a security guard at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here last night.
The scuffle at the hospital was recorded and the video went viral, Perak police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said.
He said police had received reports about two separate incidents — the injuries sustained in a fight in Buntong and the scuffle at the hospital. They later discovered both were interlinked.
“The first case was an assault on others by a local man using a sharp weapon in Buntong. Three people were reported to have been injured and were sent for treatment at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.
“We believe the incident was due to a misunderstanding between two families over a romance.
“The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing serious injury.”
The second case was reported at 12.20am at the same hospital. It involved a group of local men sending the injured victims from the first case to the hospital.
A misunderstanding occurred with the security guard there because too many people wanted to enter the emergency zone, Mior Faridalathrash said.
Police reinforcements were sent to the hospital to control the situation, he said. This case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
Police are tracking down those involved in both the incidents and urged anyone with information to contact senior investigating officer Fadli Ahmad at 019-250-0019.
