Recruitment firm demands apology, seeks damages from migrant activist

In its letter of demand, Embun Karisma Resources director R Muthusamy claims the Brit had accused him of asking around 'how much would it cost to pay off Andy Hall'.

Andy Hall has claimed that a consultancy with local manufacturer ATA was one of the ways a recruitment firm’s director tried to buy his silence.
PETALING JAYA:
Recruitment firm Embun Karisma Resources director R Muthusamy is demanding an apology from migrant rights activist Andy Hall over alleged defamatory statements the latter made.

Muthusamy is also seeking RM30 million in damages.

According to the letter of demand, Hall had sent an email on Jan 6 to not less than 40 individuals, including companies, government departments and NGOs accusing Muthusamy of “bribing” him with a consultancy offer at ATA.

In the email, Hall also claimed that Muthusamy had asked around on “how much it would cost to pay off or silence Andy Hall”.

Muthusamy’s lawyer, GK Sritharan said these statements were false and without merit.

“They (statements) are defamation per se in that they depict our client as engaging in, inter alia, illegal and criminal activities. This has damaged our client’s reputation locally and overseas,” he said.

Sritharan has instructed Hall to immediately cease and desist in publishing any further defamatory statements about his client and that he publishes a written apology to his client.

“Should Hall refuse to comply with Muthusamy’s demands by Feb 28, we will pursue further legal action.”

The lawyer also asked Hall to provide his current residential or office address after he claimed to be “homeless with no residential address”.

“In the event you attempt to evade service, you may do so at your peril,” warned Sritharan.

Hall declined to comment when contacted.
