The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code was read out before magistrate Tengku Eliana Tuan Kamaruzaman.
The girl’s lawyer, Nurainie Haziqah Shafii, confirmed with FMT that a bail application was submitted but rejected by the court.
“A bail application was submitted under Section 388 of the Criminal Procedure Code where non-bailable offences may be granted bail if the accused is under the age of 16, a woman or is sick,” she said.
Nurainie said they would decide soon on whether to appeal against the rejection of the bail application.
She said the next case management would be heard on March 16.
The girl, a rape victim, was remanded by police last week for seven days to facilitate investigations into the death of a newborn baby.
It was reported that she had received post-natal treatment at the Kemaman Hospital maternity ward.
Kemaman district police chief Hanyan Ramlan also reportedly said that in the incident on Feb 8, the newborn was found dead with chest injuries, believed to have been stabbed with a sharp object at a house in Felcra Seri Bandi, Chukai in Kemaman, Terengganu.
He said police were notified of the incident by a health worker at about 10am on the day. Preliminary investigations at the house found several sharp objects with traces of blood.
