
In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 3,083,683.
He said 7,584 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,868,538.
Noor Hisham added that there were 16 new clusters reported today.
Meanwhile, 194 patients remain in intensive care, 103 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 91 suspected of being infected; 120 patients require respiratory assistance, with 55 Covid-19 positive and 65 suspected of being infected.
There were 22,053 local infections today, involving 21,604 Malaysians and 449 foreigners, and 80 imported cases, comprising 30 Malaysians and 50 foreigners.
Of the new infections, Noor Hisham said only 0.66%, or 146 cases, were under Category 3, 4 and 5 at the time of diagnosis.
“A total of 21,987 cases are under Category 1 and 2, while Category 3 has 102 cases, Category 4 has 24 and Category 5 has 20,” he added.
According to Noor Hisham, 30 (20.6%) of the cases under Category 3, 4, or 5 involved those who had not been vaccinated or did not complete their vaccination.
“Another 79 cases involved those who had been fully vaccinated but had not received their booster dose,” he said.
He added that of the 146 of Category 3, 4 and 5 cases reported today, 58 people were over the age of 60, 46 had comorbidities and 15 died, including two who were brought in dead.
The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought, or R0) now stands at 1.38, with Labuan having the highest R0 level of 1.94, followed by Sarawak (1.56), Sabah (1.56), Penang (1.43), Perlis (1.41), Kedah (1.40), Pahang (1.36), Terengganu (1.35), Kelantan (1.34), Johor (1.33), Selangor (1.32), Negeri Sembilan (1.29), Putrajaya (1.28), Perak (1.26), Melaka (1.23), and Kuala Lumpur (1.23).
