PETALING JAYA:
Pakatan Harapan has demanded that the education ministry announce clear guidelines for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates who contract Covid-19.

The coalition’s education committee said it had received information that the Malaysian Examination Board had not established a method to replace examination sessions in the event a student is unable to attend due to Covid-19 quarantine SOPs.

“The PH education committee urges the education ministry and the Malaysian Examination Board to give an immediate explanation as to whether SPM candidates can resit the examination,” it said in a statement today.

It urged the ministry and the board to announce contingency plans for SPM candidates should they contract Covid-19 before or during the examination period next month.

The committee added that it was worrisome that Covid infections involving SPM candidates had increased and any quarantine imposed would see students miss their examinations.

Those who signed the statement included former education minister Maszlee Malik and his former deputy, Teo Nie Ching.

The SPM examination will continue as scheduled from March 2 to March 29.
