Couple charged with facilitating drug lab at condo unit

If found guilty they will face the death penalty.

GEORGE TOWN:
A married couple was charged at the magistrates’ court in Balik Pulau with facilitating the running of a drug lab at their condominium unit in Bayan Lepas.

V Jasline, 31, and Karthi, 34, who goes by a single name, were charged with offering their residential unit for trafficking in methamphetamine, heroin and monoacetylmorphine.

They were charged with committing the offence at 118 Putra Place, Persiaran Bayan Indah, from March 16, 2018 to June 7, 2020 under Sections 39B(1)(c) and 39B(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The couple have been under arrest since Jan 31.

No plea was taken as the offence carries the death penalty and will be transferred to the High Court.

Senior assistant registrar Muna Maria Azmi, who sat as a magistrate, set April 12 for case management.

Nurul Atikah Ab Rashid prosecuted while Yagoo Subramaniam appeared for the accused.
