GEORGE TOWN:
Six men, related to one another, who worked at two different pasembor stalls at a popular food court here, were charged in the magistrates’ court here today with taking part in a fight.

The six – Ridzuan Rawther, 33, Rais Ahmad Hussain, 38, Anwar Ibrahim Noorkan, 39, Jamil Kader Gani, 36, Khrom Salam, 32, and Ridzuan Salam, 30 – were charged with committing the offence at the Medan Renong city council food court at Padang Kota Lama at about 11.40pm on Feb 1.

They were charged with disturbing the peace under Section 160 of the Penal Code, which provides for six months’ jail or a RM1,000 fine, or both, upon conviction.

All six pleaded not guilty.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohammad Nazri Abdul Rahim asked the court to offer bail of RM10,000 each, given the gravity and seriousness of the offence.

Anil Singh Khera, who represented the accused, requested for a lower bail as they only earned about RM2,000 a month and had families to support.

Magistrate Nur Melati Diana Abdul Wahab allowed bail of RM2,000 each in one surety. She set March 16 for case management to receive documents on the case.

All six posted bail.
