19,090 new Covid-19 cases, 14 clusters

The total number of infections now stands at 2,975,422.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported 19,090 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, up from the 17,134 reported yesterday.

In a Twitter post, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 2,975,422.

He added, however, that of the new infections, only 0.59% (113 cases) were Category 3, 4 and 5 cases at the time of diagnosis.

According to Noor Hisham 5,712 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,835,464.

Meanwhile, 158 patients remain in the intensive care unit (ICU), 86 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 72 suspected of being infected.

Of the patients in ICU, 78 required respiratory assistance, 35 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 43 suspected of being infected.

There were 18,956 local infections today, involving 18,446 Malaysians and 510 foreigners, and 134 imported cases.

The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought, or R0) has increased to 1.47, with Labuan having the highest R-nought of 1.94, followed by Sarawak (1.84), Sabah (1.73), Perlis (1.67), Putrajaya (1.46), Terengganu (1.42), Penang (1.38), Kedah (1.37), Johor (1.31), Kelantan (1.31), Pahang (1.30), Selangor (1.27), Perak (1.25), Kuala Lumpur (1.22), Melaka (1.19), and Negeri Sembilan (1.17).

Noor Hisham added that there were 14 new clusters reported today.
