JOHOR BAHRU:
The Election Commission (EC) has started accepting online applications for postal voting by Malaysian citizens who are eligible to vote in the upcoming Johor state elections.

EC chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh said applications can be made via the MySPR Register website at https://mysprdaftar.spr.gov.my/ or on its official portal, https://www.spr.gov.my/.

He added that the closing date for online applications is Feb 24.

According to Ghani, postal voting applications are only available to Malaysian citizens staying overseas as well as members of nine agencies in the security and health sectors who are residing in the country.

“Applicants are advised to make two applications in advance to avoid any issues or difficulties,” he said.

Ghani added that details on postal voting applications for elected officials, EC members or officers, police, armed forces personnel, and media personnel would be given later.

At a press conference in Johor Bahru earlier today, he announced that the Johor state elections will take place on March 12, with early voting set for March 8. The nomination day has been set for Feb 26.

He said that 2,597,742 voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the elections.
