
This is the first time that the number of daily cases has breached the 13,000-mark since Sept 26, 2021, when 13,104 cases were reported.
In a Twitter post, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stood at 2,939,198.
Of the new infections, he said only 0.52% were Category 3, 4 and 5 cases at the time of diagnosis.
“A total of 13,871 cases are under Category 1 and 2, while Category 3 has 54 cases, Category 4 has 11 and Category 5, eight,” Noor Hisham added.
He said 5,421 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,824,071.
Meanwhile, 138 patients remain in intensive care (ICU), 81 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 57 suspected of being infected.
Of the patients in ICU, 71 required respiratory assistance, 34 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 37 suspected of being infected.
There were 13,791 local infections today, involving 13,476 Malaysians and 315 foreigners, and 153 imported cases, comprising 58 Malaysians and 95 foreigners.
The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought, or R0) has increased to 1.32, with Perlis and Sabah having the highest R-nought of 1.54, followed by Sarawak (1.48), Terengganu (1.36), Kedah (1.32), Putrajaya (1.29), Penang (1.25), Johor (1.24), Pahang (1.24), Melaka (1.23), Selangor (1.23), Perak (1.23), Kelantan (1.16), Negeri Sembilan (1.12), and Kuala Lumpur (1.09).
Noor Hisham added that there were 17 new clusters reported today.
