9,117 new Covid-19 cases, 10 clusters detected

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says the total number of Covid-19 cases now is 2,904,131.

The health ministry has reported 9,117 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, an increase from the 7,234 cases yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 2,904,131.

He said 6,546 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,806,154.

Meanwhile, 123 patients remain in intensive care, 81 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 42 suspected of being infected; 67 patients require respiratory assistance, with 34 patients Covid-19 positive and the remaining 33 suspected of being positive.

There were 8,983 local infections today, comprising 8,715 Malaysians and 268 foreigners. There were also 134 imported cases.

Noor Hisham said that of the new infections, only 0.5% were Category 3, 4 and 5 cases.

He also said 10 new clusters were reported today.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 2,490, followed by Sabah (1,205), Johor (901), Kedah (847), Kelantan (673), Kuala Lumpur (584), Penang (522), Pahang (470), Negeri Sembilan (416), Melaka (395), Perak (231), Terengganu (123), Putrajaya (115), Perlis (88), Sarawak (42), and Labuan (15).

The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought, or R0) stood at 1.13, with Perlis having the highest R0 of 1.33, followed by Sabah (1.29), Kedah (1.19), Johor and Putrajaya (1.17), Selangor (1.16), Penang (1.13), Melaka (1.12), Kuala Lumpur and Terengganu (1.09), Perak and Pahang (1.08), Sarawak (1.07), Negeri Sembilan (1.06), Kelantan(1.03), and Labuan (0).
