
This is the first time that the number of daily cases has breached the 7,000-mark since Oct 16, 2021, when 7,509 cases were reported.
In a Twitter post, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 2,895,014.
He said 5,254 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,799,608.
Meanwhile, 118 patients remain in intensive care (ICU), 81 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 37 suspected of being infected.
Of the patients in ICU, 57 required respiratory assistance, 34 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 23 suspected of being infected.
There were 7,000 local infections today, involving 6,754 Malaysians and 246 foreigners, and 234 imported cases, comprising 92 Malaysians and 142 foreigners.
Noor Hisham said of the new infections, only 1.0% were Category 3, 4 and 5 cases at the time of diagnosis.
The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought, or R0) stood at 1.11, with Perlis having the highest R-nought of 1.25, followed by Johor (1.20), Penang (1.17), Kedah (1.16), Sabah (1.16), Putrajaya (1.15), Melaka (1.14), Selangor (1.13), Perak (1.09), Negeri Sembilan (1.08), Pahang (1.07), Kuala Lumpur (1.05), Kelantan (1.04), Terengganu (1.04) and Sarawak (1.04).
Noor Hisham added that there were 21 new clusters reported today.
