5,720 new Covid-19 cases, 15 clusters

The total number of infections now stands at 2,887,780.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported 5,720 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, a slight drop from the 5,736 cases reported yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 2,887,780.

He said 3,968 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,794,354.

Meanwhile, 114 patients remain in intensive care, 85 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 29 suspected of being infected; 56 patients require respiratory assistance, with 39 Covid-19 positive and 17 suspected of being infected.

There were 5,590 local infections today, involving 5,405 Malaysians and 185 foreigners, and 130 imported cases, comprising 69 Malaysians and 61 foreigners.

Noor Hisham said that of the new infections, only 0.8% were Category 3, 4 and 5 cases at the time of diagnosis.

The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought, or R0) stood at 1.14, with Perlis having the highest R0 of 1.24, followed by Johor (1.20), Penang (1.19), Kedah (1.17), Sabah (1.16), Melaka (1.14), Putrajaya (1.14), Selangor (1.13), Negeri Sembilan (1.11), Kuala Lumpur (1.09), Kelantan (1.08), Perak (1.07), Pahang (1.06), Terengganu (1.02), and Sarawak (1.02).

Noor Hisham added that there were 15 new clusters reported today.
