Whistleblower summoned to Bukit Aman over Azam share saga

Lalitha Kunaratnam says she will be questioned on Feb 4 about the articles she wrote on the share dealings.

Lalitha Kunaratnam is to be questioned about two articles in December on the shares owned by MACC chief Azam Baki.
PETALING JAYA:
Police have summoned whistleblower Lalitha Kunaratnam to Bukit Aman over two articles she wrote about top graft buster Azam Baki and his shareholdings.

She told FMT that she received a call from Bukit Aman this morning, informing her to be present at the federal police headquarters at 2.30pm on Feb 4.

She has been summoned over her two articles on “Business ties among MACC leadership: How deep does it go?”, published last year.

On Dec 14, Sungai Buloh MP R Sivarasa failed to have a debate in the Dewan Rakyat on the allegations. Two weeks later, economist Edmund Terence Gomez resigned as a member of a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) panel after it failed to discuss the reports implicating the top leader at the anti-graft agency.

Azam, who is MACC’s chief commissioner, responded to the allegations on Jan 5 but did not deny the stock transactions. Instead, he claimed the trade was carried out by his brother using Azam’s share-trading account.

Azam is also suing Lalitha for RM10 million in damages for defamation.
