BUTTERWORTH:
Police detained two teenagers and two school dropouts for illegal racing last night and seized 43 motorcycles.

Penang traffic investigation and enforcement head Zafri Zolkapli said the operation, which ended at 5am today, was conducted in the Barat Daya district on Penang island and Seberang Perai Utara on the mainland.

“The police received complaints about illegal racing and motorcyclists riding in a dangerous manner, which is often reported in the two districts.

“We detained four individuals, aged 15 to 21, including two school dropouts. We also seized 43 motorcycles which had either been modified or had no valid road tax,” he said when contacted today.

A total of 117 summonses were issued to the motorcyclists. The police will continue with the operation from time to time to put an end to illegal racing, said Zafri.
