Covid-19 cases dip slightly to 5,139 with 5 new clusters

The total number of infections now stands at 2,861,069.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported 5,139 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, a slight dip from the 5,522 infections recorded yesterday.

It is the third day in a row that the number of cases has breached the 5,000 mark.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 2,861,069.

He said 3,767 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,777,715.

Meanwhile, 119 patients remain in intensive care, 102 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 17 suspected of being infected; 69 patients required respiratory assistance, with 50 Covid-19 positive and 19 suspected of being infected.

There were 4,913 local infections today, involving 4,714 Malaysians and 199 foreigners, and 226 imported cases, comprising 139 Malaysians and 87 foreigners.

Noor Hisham said that of the new infections, only 1.0% were Category 3, 4 and 5 cases at the time of diagnosis.

The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought, or R0) remained at 1.15, with Negeri Sembilan and Kedah having the highest R0 of 1.19, followed by Johor (1.14), Melaka (1.13), Kuala Lumpur (1.10), Selangor (1.10), Penang (1.08), Putrajaya (1.08), Sabah (1.06), Kelantan (1.05), Pahang (1.05), Perak (1.00), and Terengganu (0.90).

Perlis, Labuan and Sarawak recorded an R0 of 0.

Noor Hisham said five new clusters were reported today.
