
It is the second day in a row that the number of cases has breached the 5,000 mark, and the fourth day in a row that it has increased.
In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 2,855,930.
He said 3,285 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,773,948.
Meanwhile, 127 patients remain in intensive care, 102 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 25 suspected of being infected; 70 patients require respiratory assistance, with 48 Covid-19 positive and 22 suspected of being infected.
There were 5,149 local infections today, involving 4,946 Malaysians and 203 foreigners, and 373 imported cases, comprising 259 Malaysians and 114 foreigners.
Noor Hisham said that of the new infections, only 0.7% were Category 3, 4 and 5 cases at the time of diagnosis.
The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought, or R0) has risen to 1.15, with Negeri Sembilan having the highest R0 of 1.21, followed by Kedah (1.16), Johor (1.14), Penang (1.10), Kuala Lumpur (1.08), Selangor (1.07), Melaka (1.07), Putrajaya (1.07), Kelantan (1.05), Sabah (1.04), Pahang (1.03), Perak (0.99), and Terengganu (0.87).
Noor Hisham added there were 23 new clusters reported today.
