Pharmaniaga chairman Shazalli redesignated as non-independent director

Pharmaniaga Bhd chairman Shazalli Ramly will be redesignated as a non-independent director effective Feb 1.

Bukit Bintang Umno division chief Zainal Abidin Mohd Rafique will be taking over as Pharmaniaga chairman, according to The Edge Markets today.

Pharmaniaga also announced the redesignation of independent director Zulkifli Jaafar as executive director.

Pharmaniaga fell 0.5 sen or 0.7% to 71 sen at noon for a market capitalisation of RM930.07 million.

Shazalli made headlines after he was appointed the non-independent non-executive chairman of Pharmaniaga on March 1 last year, three months after being appointed managing director of Boustead Holdings Bhd.

He was also appointed to the board of Boustead Heavy Industries Corp Bhd as a non-independent and non-executive director. Before that, he was managing director and CEO of Telekom Malaysia Bhd (2017-2018) and CEO and corporate executive vice-president of Axiata Group Bhd (2016-2017).

Shazalli was also the CEO and director of Celcom Axiata Bhd (2005-2016) and was on the board of Malaysia Airline System Bhd as well as a member of Proton Holdings Bhd’s special task force.
