KUALA LUMPUR:
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob held a meeting with Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Norza Zakaria, national men’s singles player Lee Zii Jia and women’s singles player Goh Jin Wei today.

The meeting, which was held at Perdana Putra, was also attended by BAM’s two deputy presidents, V Subramaniam and Jahaberdeen Mohamed Yunoos.

“A beneficial discussion. Everything is now settled. May our national shuttlers continue to excel on the world stage, and the Jalur Gemilang be hoisted again on the international arena,” Ismail said in a Facebook post.

Last Friday, BAM announced that it would not register Zii Jia for tournaments for a period of two years effective from Jan 18 after the world No 7 tendered his resignation from the association on Jan 11.

However, on Tuesday, Norza gave Zii Jia the green light to turn professional after accepting his appeal and holding discussions with the shuttler.

The status of Jin Wei’s appeal, which was sent on Tuesday, is still unknown after she too was handed a two-year suspension effective Oct 31, 2021 for leaving BAM, claiming she wanted to retire due to health reasons last September before making a U-turn to turn professional.
