5,439 new Covid-19 cases, 22 clusters

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 5,439 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, up from the 4,744 cases reported yesterday.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 2,850,408.

He said 4,409 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,770,663.

Meanwhile, 124 patients remain in intensive care (ICU), 101 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 23 suspected of being infected.

Of the patients in ICU, 70 required respiratory assistance, 47 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 23 suspected of being infected.

There were 5,107 local infections today, involving 4,968 Malaysians and 139 foreigners, and 332 imported cases, comprising 204 Malaysians and 128 foreigners.

Noor Hisham said of the new infections, only 0.9% were Category 3, 4 and 5 cases at the time of diagnosis.

The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought, or R0) has risen to 1.13, with Negeri Sembilan having the highest R-nought of 1.18, followed by Kedah (1.14), Johor (1.12), Kuala Lumpur (1.07), Selangor (1.07), Melaka (1.06), Kelantan (1.04), Penang (1.02), Sabah (1.02), Pahang (1.02), Putrajaya (1.01), Perak (1.00) and Terengganu (0.85).

Noor Hisham added that there were 22 new clusters reported today.
