Cops probe case of ‘missing’ condo management staff

The 64-year-old woman is alleged to have absconded with more than RM500,000 in residents' maintenance fees.

The OG Heights Condominium management corporation claims that RM582,125 had gone missing from its accounts between 2017 and 2020.
PETALING JAYA:
Police are investigating the case of a former housing management corporation employee who is alleged to have absconded with more than RM500,000 from the company.

The investigation is being carried out by the Brickfields commercial crime investigation department following a report lodged by the management corporation of OG Heights Condominium in OUG here.

The 64-year-old woman is alleged to have “disappeared” in September 2020.

“Preliminary investigations found that the suspect issued residents’ maintenance receipts that differed from the amount of collection money entered into the company’s accounts between July 2016 and September 2020,” Brickfields district police chief Amihizam Abdul Shukor said in a statement today.

“Investigations are ongoing to obtain the actual amount of losses and documents from the management company.”

According to the company, investigations by a forensics accounting firm found that RM582,125 had gone missing from the management body’s accounts between 2017 and 2020.

Amihizam said the case was being investigated under Section 408 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust by a clerk or servant, which carries a sentence of one to 14 years’ jail, whipping and a fine upon conviction.

He said several witnesses had been called to assist in the investigation.

Yesterday, OG Heights management corporation chairman Alvin Mah claimed that the suspect had gone missing after she said she needed to see a doctor on Sept 25, 2020.

He said a police report was lodged at the Brickfields station five days later after the woman could not be contacted.

It is also believed that the suspect had taken several files with her.
