Narcotics criminal investigation department director Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said all those arrested were aged between 13 and 60 years old.
“Of that number, 942 people were arrested for trafficking whereas 2,894 were drug addicts, including the two 13-year-olds,” he said at a press conference in Bukit Aman today.
Ayob Khan said in the operation, a total of 212.6kg of various types of drugs estimated to be worth RM3.5 million were seized.
He said all suspects were being investigated under Section 39B, 39A (1), 39A (2), 39C, 12(2), 6 for the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 as well as Section 30 (3) of the Poisons Act and Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985.
Ayob Khan added that home minister Hamzah Zainudin and Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani have agreed to having “Op Tapis Khas” conducted once a month in all states.
He said this would help combat the threat of drugs among the community more effectively.
“We hope the people will continue to channel information related to drug trafficking activities that take place around them.
“This information can be channelled through the Narcotics CID hotline at 012-2087222,” he said.
