4,066 new Covid-19 cases, 13 clusters

The total number of infections now stands at 2,840,225.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported 4,066 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, up from the 3,214 cases reported yesterday.

In a Twitter post, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 2,840,225.

He said 3,559 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,762,608.

Meanwhile, 131 patients remain in intensive care (ICU), 113 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 18 suspected of being infected.

Of the patients in ICU, 65 required respiratory assistance, 46 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 19 suspected of being infected.

There were 3,624 local infections today, involving 3,521 Malaysians and 103 foreigners, and 442 imported cases, comprising 323 Malaysians and 119 foreigners.

Noor Hisham said of the new infections, only 1.2% were Category 3, 4 and 5 cases at the time of diagnosis.

The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought, or R0) has now risen to 1.09, with Negeri Sembilan having the highest R-nought of 1.16, followed by Kedah (1.09) Johor (1.09), Kuala Lumpur (1.07), Melaka (1.04), Selangor (1.04), Putrajaya (1.04), Penang (1.03), Pahang (1.01), Kelantan (1.00), Perak (1.00), Sabah (0.98) and Terengganu (0.82).

He added that there were 13 new clusters reported today.
