Water from clogged drains recedes in Taman Sri Muda

Heavy rain had caused the stagnant water to rise but it receded an hour later and there were no reports of floods, the fire and rescue department said.

SHAH ALAM:
Clogged drains caused stagnant water to rise in several areas in Taman Sri Muda here following heavy rain this afternoon, but began receding an hour later.

Selangor fire and rescue department director Norazam Khamis said no flood reports were received and there were no reports about flood victims being evacuated to relief centres, Bernama reported.

The agency said a check at 6pm showed no flood at houses situated next to Klang River at Jalan Masyhur 25/50 in Taman Sri Muda. Main roads such as Persiaran Budiman and Bulatan Budiman near the bridge area in Taman Sri Muda which were badly affected by massive floods on Dec 19 were passable to vehicles this evening.

Police were seen patrolling the area to ensure the situation was under control and safe.

Several residents of Taman Sri Muda were also seen taking precautionary measures by parking their vehicles on the bridge.

Earlier today, some residents of the neighbourhood had spoken of their fear of another flood. Anbarasan Many, a member of the Taman Sri Muda Zone D Residents’ Association said lower-lying areas of the township had been flooded in calf-deep waters in some parts today.

Last month, at least 25 people died in Selangor, including 12 in Taman Sri Muda, when five states suffered major flooding from monsoonal rains and a tropical depression.
