PETALING JAYA:
A former enforcement director of a government agency has been remanded for seven days after being arrested on suspicion of accepting bribes over a RM3.1 million waste management and public sanitation contract in the northern part of the country.

In a statement today, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said the remand order, valid until Jan 30, was issued by magistrate Nadia Othman in Kuala Lumpur after the anti-graft agency made the application today.

According to an MACC source, the suspect in his 40s was arrested at the Sabah MACC office around 2pm yesterday after giving his statement.

The suspect is believed to have solicited and received bribes on a monthly basis from July 2019 to March last year from a company to help it win a tender on solid waste collection and management of public sanitation in the northern region.
