
The last time daily Covid-19 cases breached the 4,000-mark was the 4,083 infections reported on Dec 18.
In a Twitter post, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 2,824,973.
He said 2,804 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,750,261.
Meanwhile, 149 patients remain in intensive care (ICU), 120 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 29 suspected of being infected.
Of the patients in ICU, 71 required respiratory assistance, 49 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 22 suspected of being infected.
There were 3,557 local infections today, involving 3,449 Malaysians and 108 foreigners, and 489 imported cases, comprising 388 Malaysians and 101 foreigners.
Noor Hisham said of the new infections, only 0.8% were Category 3, 4 and 5 cases at the time of diagnosis.
The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought, or R0) stood at 1.00, with Kuala Lumpur having the highest R-nought of 1.13, followed by Negeri Sembilan with 1.06, Kedah (1.04), Johor (1.03), Melaka (1.02), Sabah (1.01) and Selangor (1.00). The rest of the states and federal territories recorded less than 1.00.
He added that there were 12 new clusters reported today.
