PETALING JAYA:
Former chief justice Raus Sharif will lead the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) to probe management and operation issues faced by Tabung Haji from 2014 to 2020.

Law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said former chief secretary to the government Samsudin Osman, RHB Group founder Abdul Rashid Hussain and former Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad chairman Munir Majid were also appointed to the RCI.

The remaining RCI members are Asmadi Mohamed Naim, vice-chancellor of Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, and Norsyahrin Hamidon, deputy president of Dewan Perniagaan Melayu Malaysia.

“The appointed members are figures who have extensive expertise and experience in their respective fields.

“They also do not have direct associations with Tabung Haji to ensure that an investigation can be carried out transparently, fairly and equitably, he said.

According to Wan Junaidi, the commission has been given six months to carry out investigations and prepare a report to be presented to the King.

In the run-up to the last general election (GE14), there had been calls for an RCI into alleged scandals involving the pilgrims’ fund.
