3,229 new Covid-19 cases, 20 clusters

This brings the total number of infections to 2,817,163.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported 3,229 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, a slight drop from the 3,245 cases reported yesterday.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 2,817,163.

He said 2,848 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,744,203.

Meanwhile, 162 patients remain in intensive care (ICU), 133 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 29 suspected of being infected.

Of the patients in ICU, 76 required respiratory assistance, 55 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 21 suspected of being infected.

There were 2,990 local infections today, involving 2,899 Malaysians and 91 foreigners, and 239 imported cases, comprising 175 Malaysians and 64 foreigners.

Noor Hisham said of the new infections, only 1.2% were Category 3, 4 and 5 cases at the time of diagnosis.

The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought, or R0) stood at 0.99, with Kuala Lumpur having the highest R-nought of 1.08, followed by Negeri Sembilan with 1.06, Melaka (1.04), Johor (1.03), Kedah (1.03), Sabah (1.01) and Selangor (1.01). The rest of the states and federal territories recorded less than 1.00.

He added that there were 20 new clusters reported today.
