MACC deputy director denies forcing immigration officer to plead guilty

Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin has lodged a report urging police to investigate.

Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin, a deputy MACC director, said the report by the Edisi Khas Twitter account was aimed at ruining his reputation and that of the anti-graft agency.
PETALING JAYA:
A deputy director with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has lodged a police report denying that he had forced an immigration officer to plead guilty to several corruption charges he is facing in court.

Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin, who is also a deputy public prosecutor attached to the Putrajaya MACC office, said he filed the complaint after coming across the allegation made in the Edisi Khas Twitter account.

He said he strongly denied the accusations against him, adding that two other MACC officers were present with him when they met the immigration officer.

“The purpose of this report is for the police to investigate how the report made by the officer could have been leaked to Edisi Khas,” he said in the complaint he filed.

He suspected that this was a plot to smear his reputation and also that of the anti-graft agency.

In the initial police report lodged by the immigration officer, which was also posted on Edisi Khas, he said he had claimed trial to three charges under Section 165 of the Penal Code against him.

The trial was fixed from July 3 to 7 this year.

The officer claimed he was then contacted by an MACC investigating officer to come over to the Putrajaya office on Dec 2 where he was allegedly told to plead guilty to the charges and offered a RM5,000 fine as punishment in return.

He alleged that Wan Shaharuddin had threatened that he would face several other charges if he did not comply with MACC’s request.
