KOTA KINABALU:
A religious ceremony for a house blessing has triggered a Covid-19 cluster in southwest Sabah, infecting at least 24 people.

State local government and housing minister Masidi Manjun said a 62-year-old man was identified as the index case of the Kayul cluster in the Kuala Penyu district.

The man was found infected after a RTK Antigen test, he said.

“The man held a three-day ceremony at Kampung Kayul that was attended by members of his family from the village, as well as from Kampung Kebunau and Kampung Gerowot,” he said when contacted today.

“A close contact tracing has so far found 24 people infected, including four new cases today.”

Meanwhile, Masidi said Sabah detected 265 new infections in the last 24 hours, which is 21 more than yesterday.

Kota Kinabalu had the highest number of cases at 70, followed by Papar and Ranau with 23 each, Penampang (19), Tuaran (19) and Kota Belud (18).

Masidi said of the new cases, 261 comprised Category 1 and Category 2 infections.

Only one case fell under Category 3, while two cases came under Category 4 and one case was in Category 5, he added.
