Calls to register GRS getting louder, says Sabah Bersatu

KOTA KINABALU:
Calls to register Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) as an official political entity are getting louder, according to a Sabah Bersatu leader.

The party’s information chief, Khairul Firdaus Akbar, said turning GRS, the loose coalition ruling Sabah, into a formal political entity would ensure that the federal government takes heed of Sabah leaders.

Having Sabah leaders under a single banner would help ensure that the stumbling blocks preventing Sabah from becoming a developed state would be removed, he said.

“The time has come for Sabah leaders to ensure that development and success can be achieved under GRS,” he said in a statement here today. “Our voice must be heard clearly and firmly by the federal government.”

Firdaus said the uncertain political situation in West Malaysia warranted the registration of the coalition.

Last month, chief minister Hajiji Noor said that a meeting to discuss the official registration of GRS would be held with the component parties as the concurrence of every party was vital before any decision was made.

The parties in GRS comprise Bersatu, STAR, SAPP, Gerakan, PAS, Barisan Nasional (Umno, PBRS, MCA and MIC) and Parti Bersatu Sabah.
