Mohd Naaim Mahmod, a special officer to the Pagoh MP, said full vaccination was not mandatory at that time and Muhyiddin had already received his first dose of the Pfizer vaccine before he travelled.
Muhyiddin had been accused by preacher Ustaz Abu Syafiq of being unvaccinated against two diseases when he travelled to Saudi Arabia in March 2021.
The ustaz courted controversy recently after claiming on Instagram that he had taken several unvaccinated umrah pilgrims without vaccination to Mekah, accusing several ministers of doing the same.
Religious affairs minister Idris Ahmad then called for an investigation on the preacher following his claim.
“Muhyiddin and all the delegates received the first vaccine dose for Covid-19 before leaving for Saudi Arabia, and received the second dose of the vaccine upon returning home,” Naaim said in a Facebook post.
On the accusation that Muhyiddin had not been vaccinated against the meningococcal meningitis bacterial infection, Naaim said that this was not a condition for entry when Muhyiddin made his visit.
“At that time, the Malaysian and Saudi Arabian governments did not impose conditions on the administration of Covid-19 vaccines or other vaccines on any traveller wishing to enter Saudi Arabia.”
Muhyiddin was the first person in the country to receive a Covid-19 jab and this was televised live on Feb 24 last year.
In addition, Naaim said Muhyiddin’s working visit to Saudi Arabia as prime minister followed strict SOPs, including PCR tests for all delegates before and after the visit. All the Covid-19 tests returned negative.
“The movement of delegates in Saudi Arabia was also tightly controlled by the Saudi Arabian authorities via a pre-determined travel bubble.”
