Shebby, who was cremated this evening, died of a heart attack while cycling in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, on Wednesday. He was 61.
“Shebby Singh’s death is a shock. For the many veterans who cycle uphill along Genting Sempah, Peras, Fraser’s Hill and Mayor Hill (in Bukit Tunku), wear a heart monitor,” he said in an Instagram post, adding that there was no chest strap on Shebby when he collapsed.
The Bersatu Youth chief’s post drew a sharp rebuke from social media users, with one Twitter user, @nizambakeri describing it as “stupid”.
“Could have chosen a better time to raise awareness. It hasn’t been a week since he passed,” said @IzzatiTaufek.
After being ticked off, Wan Fayhsal edited his post and apologised for the paragraph deemed offensive.
“I meant no disrespect to our legend. I just wanted to raise awareness for our elderly as this is a critical issue that does not get enough attention. I have edited (the post). Thank you.”
However, @nizambakeri said that the “damage had been done”.
