The minister, Shahidan Kassim, had earlier assured that existing ponds in Kuala Lumpur would be preserved and protected from commercial project development.
However, Fahmi said that after examining Shahidan’s statement closely, it only applied to nine ponds that were under the jurisdiction of the government.
He was referring to the Auditor-General’s Report 2019 Series 2 that highlighted a total of 15 ponds designated as flood reservoirs in the capital.
“I want an explanation from the minister on the status of the six flood retention ponds that have been sold or given ownership since 2015,” he said in a Facebook post today.
He questioned whether planning permission had been granted or whether it was cancelled.
“I am also seeking clarification about the Batu 4½ flood reservoir pool next to PPR Seri Anggerik, which was given ownership on Aug 5, 2020 to a company named Sri Adara Sdn Bhd.
“Has the premium of tens of millions for the 3.98 acres of land been paid?” he asked.
