PETALING JAYA:
Some 61.2% of households affected by the recent floods nationwide have received the Bantuan Wang Ihsan (BWI) payments as of Jan 2, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

Ismail said 46,162 heads of households had received the payments, adding that the aid had been distributed within 10 days of the aftermath of the floods.

In comparison, he said, it took three to six months for flood victims to receive their BWI aid in the past.

In a statement, Ismail said all households affected by floods in Kelantan, Melaka, Terengganu, Perak and the federal territories had received the payments.

“Payments in Pahang have reached 65.5%, Negeri Sembilan 82.7% and Selangor 47.6%,” he said, adding that they were expected to be fully disbursed by Wednesday.

“This does not include BWI payments for victims affected by the second wave of floods,” he added.

Government assistance for flood victims can reach up to RM10,000 for each head of household.

Victims whose houses were totally destroyed can get up to RM61,000.
