One of 3 MACC men held over theft of RM25mil, now in jail

The 40-year-old officer is currently serving a sentence for drug-related offences at the Simpang Renggam Prison in Johor.

The MACC officer was investigated under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985.
PETALING JAYA:
One of the three senior officers of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigated over the alleged theft of RM25 million that it had seized is now being detained in prison for drug offences.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the 40-year-old officer, a senior superintendent, was currently in custody at the Simpang Renggam Prison in Johor, Utusan Malaysia reported.

“Investigations were carried out under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985 and the officer is serving a sentence for drug-related offences,” he was quoted as saying by the Malay daily.

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman CID director Abd Jalil Hassan said the investigations on abuse of power and misappropriation of case items involving the three senior officers were nearing completion.

“We are still waiting for the response from the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) on the investigations,” he said.

In September, FMT reported that the officer was investigated for firearms and drug-related offences.

Razarudin, who was then the director of the Narcotics CID, said that the officer was believed to have been involved in drug-related activities for a year.

MACC also seized RM1.6 million in assets belonging to the officer — a residential property in Selangor, two Ducati motorcycles, a Mercedes Benz and Honda Type R, according to Utusan Malaysia.

The anti-graft agency had previously confirmed that three of its senior officers had been arrested to assist in investigations into allegations of abuse of power and malpractice in the case of the former head of the Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation, Hasanah Ab Hamid.

She was given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal by the High Court last April for criminal breach of trust involving RM50.4 million in government funds.
