KUALA LUMPUR:
A 29-year-woman who lodged a false report about her missing identity card (IC) to escape paying the penalty when applying for a replacement was jailed for three days and fined RM2,000 by the Selayang magistrate’s court.

The prosecution said Siti Norhidayah Mohamad Amin lodged a police report on Dec 12 claiming that she was robbed by two men on a motorcycle when no such incident had actually happened.

The court was told that her action had resulted in a police officer having to conduct an investigation, according to Bernama.

During the probe, it was discovered that she had dropped her purse containing her IC and admitted to making the false police report to avoid being fined by the National Registration Department when applying for a replacement.

Magistrate Nik Fadli Nik Azlan handed down the sentence on the supermarket cashier after she pleaded guilty to the charge of providing false information to a public servant.

She was charged under Section 182 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum sentence of six months’ jail or a fine of RM2,000 or both upon conviction.

The woman, who was ordered to serve the jail sentence from today, paid the fine.
