Suriani Zakaria had already faced floods in January and March in Kampung Surau Putih, Bukit Setongkol.
But this time, during the floods on Sunday, she found a poisonous snake slithering in the kitchen.
Luckily, her husband and a friend managed to kill it.
She quickly realised that the floods this time was going to be worse when water reached her knees and was rising rapidly.
She also feared more snakes may come her way and grabbed her three-month-old baby and important items to flee.
Suriani, 33, said she and family borrowed her brother-in-law’s boat and got to higher ground 100 metres away.
From there, they got a ride to a flood relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Setongkol.
“Dealing with the floods has been an annual affair for us. This time, we lost almost all of our furniture.”
