No arrest has yet been made, but the case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 233.
For offences under Section 509, which refers to insulting one’s modesty, those convicted face up to five years in jail or a fine or both.
Those convicted under Section 233 can be sentenced to up to a year in jail, or a fine not exceeding RM50,000, or both.
“The public is advised to always be wary of statements or depictions that could embarrass a person on social media, as it can lead to legal action being taken against the perpetrators,” police warned.
