The massive flood last weekend was the worst to have hit the school in its 104-year history. Among the many items damaged are computers, books, printers, chairs, tables, carpets, sports equipment and tools for industrial training.
According to the Maxwell School Old Boys’ Association (Maxoba), the damage is estimated at more than RM500,000.
“The ground floor of the school was entirely submerged,” Maxoba president Zakhir Hussian told FMT.

About 150 Maxoba members gave up their Christmas holiday and celebrations to conduct a massive cleanup effort at the school.
They were joined by teachers, the fire and rescue department, volunteers from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, the Scouts Association of Kuala Lumpur and the Association of Peninsular Malaysia Students and members of Umno Segambut and MIC Kepong.
Batu MP P Prabakaran, who is an ex-Maxwellian, and Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh were also involved in the cleanup.
According to Zakhir, they managed to clean up about 80% of the school area.

“Special thanks to the school administration led by principal Norlaila for giving us, the ex-students, a chance to serve the school,” he said.
He urged ex-Maxwellians as well as members of the general public to help Maxoba raise funds for the school to lessen the burden of its recovery efforts.
