PETALING JAYA:
The department of irrigation and drainage (DID) has reported that seven areas in Selangor are still flooded, and 22 pumps are operating in three areas – Kuala Langat, Petaling and Sepang.

In a statement released by the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) today, DID also reported that only two riverine locations in the state were currently at alert level – Hulu Langat and Kuala Langat.

“Flood waters are still being pumped out in areas where they remain stagnant.”

Nadma said it had instructed state and district-level disaster control command centres to identify areas where flood waters remain stagnant and water pumps are needed so that coordination could be done with other state DIDs if necessary.

“The floods have begun to subside in several states and districts, and these areas require post-disaster action.

“The disaster management central committee (JPBP) through Nadma has issued instructions to all state and district-level committees to formulate and coordinate immediate post-disaster activities,” said Nadma.

It also said that state-level disaster control command centres had been instructed to coordinate assistance to flood victims to prevent excessive supply of perishable packed food items to avoid wastage.

As for victims in temporary flood relief centres, those living in areas where the floods have receded would be allowed to return home.

Flood victims could also opt to remain in the shelters for up to three days while waiting for their homes to be cleaned up.
