Health minister Khairy Jamaluddin said Hasanuddin had gone for an Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) conference in Istanbul earlier, between Dec 8 and 12, with three other elected representatives and had applied for a quarantine exemption.
He said the exemption was initially granted because of the test and release protocol for official travel.
However, the Crisis Response and Preparedness Centre (CPRC) then subsequently issued a home surveillance order to Hasanuddin on Dec 20.
“But (because) he arrived on Dec 22, the initial exemption was overridden because he was asked to do home quarantine. That was the last correspondence we had with him,” Khairy said at a press conference today.
He was asked if Hasanuddin had broken the order after he was reported to have been spotted on the ground doing flood relief work in his constituency.
“So, we are now investigating the case. He went to Turkey and then to Iran and Pakistan.
“We want to know why, after receiving the HSO (home surveillance order) on Dec 20, he broke his quarantine.
“If he broke the quarantine, we can only fine him RM1,000.”
