BENTONG:
The next of kin of each victim who perished in the recent floods will receive a contribution of RM10,000 from the government.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said he would get the names of those who died to ensure prompt delivery of the contribution.

“We are very sympathetic and saddened by what happened. We will channel the contribution through the district disaster office, which will hand it over to the families concerned.

“It is learnt that the Pahang government is also providing RM5,000 to the next of kin of each victim,” he told reporters after visiting flood victims at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Piatus here today.

Ismail said the government was also allocating RM50 million to Pahang and Selangor, the two states worst hit by the floods.

He said the environment and water ministry had been instructed to assist the two states to pump out stagnant water in affected areas, including in Mentakab, Pahang.

The ministry will also begin work to straighten rivers and build embankments as early preparation in the event of a second wave of floods, he added.
