PETALING JAYA:
National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) chairman Wan Saiful Wan Jan has instructed its top management to propose a targeted moratorium on loan repayments of PTPTN borrowers affected by the massive floods that hit the country recently.

In a Facebook post, Wan Saiful said the proposal needed to be urgently discussed with the finance ministry and the higher education ministry.

“The top management was also instructed to simplify the process of rescheduling loan repayments should any borrower affected by the flood make such requests.

“The restructuring of loan repayments in some cases is within the jurisdiction of PTPTN. Therefore, the officers should simplify the process as much as they can.”

Wan Saiful said he gave the instruction following a request by a flood victim whom he met during a visit to flood-hit areas.

The victim’s family suffered a “total loss” – where all of their furniture and home equipment was destroyed in the flood.

“I can understand the request since I myself lost everything when my house was destroyed in a fire back in 2012 and struggled to rebuild my life after that. Thankfully, I was helped by my friends and relatives,” said Wan Saiful.
