PETALING JAYA:
Fugitive Abdul Hamim Ab Hamid, aka “Long Tiger”, who escaped from a magistrates’ court lock-up in Johor on Dec 15, is still in the country, according to police.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Mazlan Lazim said police have distributed photographs of Hamim, a Myanmar national of Rohingya ethnicity, to all state and district police chiefs.

He added that police had intensified border control measures and manhunt operations in states with international land borders in the northern region and the east coast like Perlis, Kedah, Perak, and Kelantan, as well as in southern states like Johor, Melaka, and Negeri Sembilan.

“So far, we are still actively tracking and hunting for Long Tiger,” Harian Metro quoted Mazlan as saying.

On Dec 15, Hamim escaped from the magistrates’ court lock-up in Tangkak, Johor, where he was brought for a blackmail case under Section 388 of the Penal Code. He escaped from the court entrance and ran into the nearby bushes.

He was wearing a bright-coloured t-shirt, dark brown trousers and a pair of slippers. His last address was 292 Jalan Rambutan, Taman Sri Jaya, Bukit Gambir, Tangkak.

The Tangkak district police launched a manhunt on the same day Hamim escaped, without any success.

Apart from blackmail, Hamim is also wanted for rape and kidnap.
