A resident, Puteri Nadia Natasha Mohamed Ramzan, 24, said the area’s residents spent more than 12 hours on the roof before eventually being rescued by civil defence department personnel.
“I live in Taman Sri Nanding as well but I managed to escape from the disaster area,” she said.
“However, some friends who could not escape in time had to take shelter on the roof of the surau while waiting for help to arrive,” she said, according to a Sinar Harian report.
She said infants, pregnant women, patients with chronic illnesses and the elderly were also trapped on the roof.
She said the rescuers eventually helped the victims to move to a temporary relief centre in Taman Perkasa.
“Most of our houses have been submerged and the situation got worse when water from Sungai Pangsun overflowed into our area,” she said.
“Many properties suffered losses and some cars were trapped in the area.
“As of 10am this morning, the process of evacuating residents to safer locations is still underway and we hope everything will go smoothly.”
