KUALA LUMPUR:
Top national men’s squash player Ng Eain Yow kept his promise by ending Malaysia’s decade-long drought at the Asian individual championships in Islamabad, Pakistan, today.

The top-seeded Eain Yow defeated world No. 49 Yip Tsz Fung of Hong Kong 11-6, 13-11, 11-9 in 34 minutes to be crowned the men’s champion.

This is also Eain Yow’s first title in the tournament, after helping Malaysia clinch the Asian team championships earlier this month.

The last Malaysian to win the men’s title was Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan in 2011. He was later the bronze medallist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

However, world No. 39 Rachel Arnold failed to take home the women’s title for Malaysia when she went down to Tong Tsz Wing, also from Hong Kong, 8-11, 11-13, 5-11.

Squash queen and nine-time champion Nicol Ann David was the last national women’s player to win the tournament in 2015.
