PETALING JAYA:
Despite losing his battle for the Batu Kawah seat, in which he was defeated by a 5,393-vote margin, Dr Kelvin Yii of DAP insists there is a silver lining to his defeat.

He said the community had welcomed him with open arms in his contest against Sarawak United People’s Party president Dr Sim Kui Hian in a four-way contest.

Sim was re-elected to a third term, polling 7,827 votes for a majority of 5,393 votes over Yii’s 2,434 votes.

Yii, who is MP for Bandar Kuching, thanked Batu Kawah residents for their support and said that he was glad to have had the opportunity to interact with them and learn about their needs.

“My engagements with them have reinforced my belief that the strength of Sarawak, is not in our big buildings nor just our majestic natural landscape, but the people of our beloved Bumi Kenyalang,” he said.

“This experience has strengthened my resolve to build Sarawakians. I shall continue to use my platform as a parliamentarian to make life better for the everyday Sarawakians.”

Parti Bumi Kenyalang’s Chai Kueh Khun and Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sarawak’s Fong Pau Teck received 756 and 133 votes respectively.
