
Sixth seed Zii Jia was in a class of his own, overcoming world No 3 Antonsen 21-12 in the first game but a blister on the right foot midway through the second took its toll on the shuttler as he lost 21-8.
Despite having the urge to fight, world No 7 Zii Jia retired at the interval of the third game when Antonsen was enjoying a comfortable 11-1 lead.
However, it was joy for men’s pair Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi, who pulled off one of the tournament’s biggest upsets against Tokyo Olympics champions Lee Yang-Wang Chi Lin.
After losing the first game 21-12, the highly spirited Yew Sin-Ee Yi mounted a great comeback to take the next two games 21-17, 21-15. They face fifth seeds Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi of Japan next.
In the mixed doubles, 10th seeds Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie’s journey was cut short following a 21-15, 21-13 loss to second seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand.
