Helicopter with Sarawak CM ‘didn’t make emergency landing’

Chief minister's office clarifies earlier report that the helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing due to bad weather.

A helicopter with Sarawak chief minister Abang Johari Openg on board did not make an emergency landing at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) this afternoon, the Sarawak chief minister’s office clarified today.

It referred to social media postings that an emergency landing was made due to heavy rain.

“This is to clarify that there was no issue of an emergency landing as reported.

“The pilots had decided to land alternatively at Unimas due to bad weather and low visibility upon returning from Gedong.

“All passengers are safe and sound,” it said.

Earlier, Bernama reported that the helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing in bad weather at the Unimas parade ground at about 2pm today.

The chief minister’s private secretary, Ahmad Hazlan Ismawi, told Bernama that due to heavy rain, the helicopter, which was supposed to land at Masjid Jamek (state mosque), had to be diverted to Unimas.
